A starter generator is a mixture of two different engine components. The components can be found in lawn tractors, garden tractors, and aircraft.
The starter component generates the initial agitation, starting the vehicle, and the generator maintains the voltage while the cart is being operated. The function of a starter-generator has discussed below in details:
Voltage:
The starter generator initially enlists because of the direct current voltage sent from the battery of the cart or equipment.
Once the switch of the light is turned, it closes the contactor or electrical connection, sending voltage to the starter of the component. After sending the voltage to the starter, the component acts like a tiny motor. The starter turns, sliding or turning the engine.
At the same time, voltage is being sent to the spark plugs, which helps to blow the fuel inside the engine tub or turbine of the starter.
Starter:
The starter part of the component is a combination of a stator, windings, armature, and brushes. The armature is joined to wires wound in a circular motion making a field coil.
Then the voltage is sent to the coil, next into the brushes, and then to the armature. As the voltage flows through a series of field, a magnetic field will be created.
The voltage runs through various parts of the coil, by changing the created magnetic fields. As a result, the magnetic field rotates around the coil, and the stator turns by engaging the power plant.
Generator:
The generator section of the starter generator components provides voltage to all the electrical components of the cart. Each electric feature of a cart requires some amount of voltage to run.
The lights, PTO, emergency hydrant instrument, computer systems, and other electronics found on aircraft or tractors must be charged. The generator sends the proper amount of voltage to the each machinery while maintaining enough voltage to run all the components at the same time.
