How do you test a MOV varistor?
A MOV (metal oxide varistor) can be tested using a multimeter.
To test a MOV, set the multimeter to measure resistance and place the probes on each end of the MOV.
The multimeter should read a high resistance value.
If the multimeter reads a low resistance value or shows no resistance, the MOV is faulty and should be replaced.

When a varistor fails, it can no longer effectively regulate voltage.
This can cause the circuit to become overloaded and components to become damaged.
In some cases, the entire circuit may fail.
In other cases, the varistor may act as a short, causing a current surge that can damage other components.

The easiest way to determine if a MOV is bad is to measure the resistance of the MOV using a multimeter.
If the resistance is zero or very low, then the MOV is likely bad and should be replaced.
You can also check for physical signs of damage such as cracks, discoloration, or bulging.
If any of these signs are present, then the MOV should be replaced.
